The initial meeting of those interested in cohousing in Prescott was held in March 1994.

Early on, the community made a decision to be its own developer rather than hiring a cohousing developer specialist because the members at that time thought they could do it themselves and save money by doing so. We have discovered both advantages and disadvantages to that choice and have learned a lot in the process.

Our property was acquired in the late 1990’s.

The first section of streets and infrastructure (Phase I) was completed in 2000 and the first homes were built by their owners. One of these homes was built by the community and used as a temporary Common House.

The remaining lots (Phase II and III) were made available for sale in late 2001, followed by construction of the remaining streets and infrastructure, funded as lots were sold.

The permanent Common House was completed in late 2004.
